Developing STEM Learning Through Technology in Africa
Shafika Issacs, Founding Executive Director, Schoolnet Africa Shafika Issacs was the Schools Executive at Mindset Network (www.mindset.co.za) and the founding Executive Director of Schoolnet Africa (www.schoolnetafrica.org), an NGO operating in 35 African countries. Shafika has also worked as a Senior Programme Officer with the International Development Research Centre's Acacia Programme and Director of the Trade Union Research Project, a labour research organisation where she specialized in research, worker education and writing popular publications on globalisation, gender issues and the impact of changing technologies on the labour market. Shafika has published a number of papers on issues relating to ICT and education in Africa, including an InfoDev Survey on ICT in Education in Africa and the Monitoring and Evaluation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) eSchools Demonstration Project. She is now an independent consultant in Information and Communication Technology building on her wide ranging experience of working in development in Africa. In this webinar, Shafika will reflect on the particular challenges, opportunities and successes of using ICT to develop STEM learning in a range of African contexts and what we all might learn from those experiences.
